Well, ive finally gone and done something ive been 'going to do' for years.. As of late last week, i'm actually licenced to be riding on the road. I've dropped $500 to get my TTR registered and have been taking every chance to clock up the kays on it over the past few days.
Borrowing a few bits of gear off my brother has got me on the road asap and having a ride-buddy who is new to it all is making riding a fun adventure. Having previous ride experiance (off-road), along with being a licenced driver for the past 14 years, had made the trasition less-steep.
Being on a dual purpose bike, I love the ability to drop the wheels into the dirt and go exploring, rather than follow the beaten path all the time. Being on a dual purpose bike, i need to be wary of range as the tanks are quite small (~170km range on the current bike), but the seats arnt usually built for comfort so providing im in range of a fuel stop, it isnt so bad :)
Riding a dirt bike, with knobbies on the tar is a bit like driving an old car.. It shakes, rattles, is noisy and doesnt go that quick (still eats cars around town, lol!), but its a hell of a ride. You really have to take charge of the thing, othewise it can bite and hard!
so yeah, HOORAY for seeing the world out in the weather and on two wheels!
